Another woman has accused director Roman Polanski of sexually abusing her when she was 16.
The woman, who identified herself only as Robin, came forward on Tuesday to say she was “sexually victimised” by the French-Polish director.
She told a Los Angeles news conference Polanski had abused her in 1973 – four years before he had unlawful sexual intercourse with his original victim Samantha Geimer, who was 13 at the time.
Polanski’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Robin said she was prompted to reveal the incident after Geimer urged authorities to put the case to rest so she could get on with her life.
“I’m speaking out now so that Samantha and the world will know that she is not the only minor Roman Polanski victimised,” Robin said.
“I’m not over it and I certainly believe that Roman Polanski should be held accountable for his criminal conduct with Samantha Geimer.”
The acclaimed director pleaded guilty in 1978 to statutory rape in the case involving Ms Geimer, who accused him of drugging her and sexually assaulting her at a party in actor Jack Nicholson’s house while he was away.
As part of the plea agreement, some charges were dropped, and Polanski was promised he would spend 48 days in custody to undergo psychiatric evaluation before being released.
Following his release, Polanski fled to France over fears the plea deal would be scrapped and he would be sent to prison.
The Oscar-winning director of The Pianist and Chinatown has been on the run for nearly 40 years, and both Switzerland and Poland have previously denied US requests to extradite him.
Robin, who is being represented by the same lawyer who handled Ms Geimer’s case, says she was “infuriated” by her plea “not to incarcerate an 83-year-old man”.
Due to the statute of limitations, she will not be filing a civil complaint but is willing to testify under oath if there were ever a criminal trial.
“The day after it happened, I did tell one friend that Mr Polanski had done that to me,” she said on Tuesday.
“The reason, with this exception, that I kept it to myself is that I didn’t want my father to do something that might cause him to go to prison for the rest of his life.”
Robin is the third woman to accuse the director of sexual assault.
In 2010, British actress Charlotte Lewis accused Polanski of abusing her when she was 16, but did not file legal charges.
