Russia’s Vladimir Putin has invited US President Donald Trump to Moscow for a face-to-face meeting, he has said.
But he added that the conditions for Mr Trump to visit the Russian capital need to be right.
And speaking about Mr Trump’s invitation to the White House, Mr Putin said he is “ready to go to Washington”.
Mr Putin was speaking during a trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he suggested that sanctions against his country have turned currency “into a weapon” – while pointing out that the Chinese yuan is growing in influence.
His comments come amid an ongoing political storm in the US, where reports have emerged claiming that Mr Trump did know in advance about a meeting between his son and Russian agents.
The meeting was set up ahead of the US presidential election, allegedly to glean compromising information on the opposing Clinton campaign.
