A soldier has been arrested after an armoured personnel carrier was stolen, sparking a chase for more than 60 miles involving dozens of police cars.
Virginia State Police said the vehicle had left the National Guard-operated Fort Pickett near Blackstone, with officers pursuing it through to Richmond, Virginia.
However, the driver was forced to surrender as the 10-wheeled vehicle, which runs on tank caterpillar tracks, could only travel about 45mph.
Local media said when the man got out he was attacked by a police dog and tasered.
A police spokesman said: “As of 9:40pm, the driver of the armoured personnel carrier had stopped the vehicle and surrendered to Virginia State Police.”
It finally stopped at East Broad Street and 11th Street, near Richmond’s city hall.
The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified.
